Monday 20th September 2021
So this week is going to be a little different.
I’ve got a bunch of things to do around the house that I’ve been putting off and can’t do so any longer.
Usually my focus is on the writing and everything else comes second. But I’m not sure what happens if I swap things around. Would I write more if my focus was elsewhere and I was stressing about it less?
Because I do stress. I’ve written loads this year. I still have loads to write, and I make progress but I do stress I’m not doing enough, not being efficient enough. If I could take that stress away, I’m not sure I would write more, but I’d definitely be a lot less stressed.
So the plan is to have a week focus on household stuff. I’m still going to write but I’m going to not worry if I miss a day.
Let’s not mention the various projects I have ongoing.
If I can have a week where I clear some of the household tasks that have been stressing me out, then maybe I can relieve one area of stress.
And so I’ve started on that today, and started small. The trouble isn’t the task, it’s just the anxiety that gets induced when I think about everything I have to get done. So bit by bit.
C goes away for a few days tomorrow. I’m cat sitting in the evenings, but the plan is that I can take my laptop and write in peace in the evenings if I want. That said, I have a bunch of TV I want to watch (for a script project) so I’ll probably do that there.
I also want to use this time for a health kick. As I mentioned I’m not great coming off caffeine and I need to do that when no-one’s around, even if it incapacitates me for a day.
And then at some point I need to start going to the gym.
I already realise that trying to do this all in 5 days is going to be impossible, so it might be that this week stretches into two.
I have got some treats for myself though. I plan to see Shang Chi at some point this week, and I’m going to be dipping into Minecraft between work sessions (like I would my writing) so I can finish building my storage system and the boat I’m half way through in the dock.
Hopefully I’ll clear at least some of my long term household tasks that have been put off during the pandemic. I wouldn’t say I’m stressed as much as they cause me stress.
As for the writing… it’ll be interesting to see my word count for this week.
