Tuesday 20th July 2021

As the heatwave has continued, I’ve made a point of staying indoors.  I don’t handle heat well at the best of times, and my plan for this mini heatwave is just to ride it out.  It just tires me out and by the time it gets to mid-afternoon and peak heat, I just have to go and have a lay down.

Trouble is that I’ve not felt very productive these last couple of days.  I’ve got stuff done but it doesn’t feel very accomplished.  That might just be the heat making me feel unsettled or it could be that I’m not really tackling all the tasks I have to do this week.

On the plus side, the backlog of The Climb is almost up to date.  Over 75,000 words!  I have just the final week to go now.  That’s been a mammoth piece of work and I’ll look forward to not having to worry about it anymore.

I also got all my weeklies done in Warcraft.  I’ve made a big push the last couple of days as, whereas in week 1 of the new raid I seemed top DPS, Inow seem to have slipped due to not exploring all the gear options.  So I’ve done 2 mythic dungeons over the last couple of days.  I did the weekly quest that had me doing 5 Draenor dungeons (only to get a belt) and did the assault.

Tomorrow it all begins again with a new week, and given it’s supposed to be 30 degrees + again, it’s probably not worth expecting much else in the way of productivity.

I did get to see the raid team Echo complete the Race To World First live as they downed Mythic Sylvanas.  It was quite a thrill to see it happen live, but again it wasn’t all that productive use of my lunch hour.

Perhaps I’m being too hard on myself as I did manage to get 1600 words done in a single session on The Accursed.  That’s probably the best I’ve ever done in a single session since the pandemic began. It’s about the only bit of prolonged concentration I had all day – although it exhausted me so much, I needed to have a lay down like a Victorian lady afterwards.   I hope to build on it, and have more sessions over the rest of the week.

Most of all, I’d like it to drop 10 degrees in heat.  I work better when I’m not drowning in my own sweat.  Until then, I’m going to find it hard to concentrate.
