My big buzzword at the moment is consistency. With so many things I want to do, they are not tasks that can be done in a single day. Therefore they need to be chipped away at, one day at a time.
The Accursed sits close to 115k – 120k (it’s a bit fuzzy because I wrote an alternative scene a while back and that was counted in the totals until recently). I chip away at around 1500 words a day. Yet, I’d like to add in an extra session each day and that’s not happening currently. One extra session a day will help bring the end forward considerably.
Social media is an interest of mine, but not for the reason people think. I’m not in it to be famous; the idea always was to have enough attention that when I have something for sale, I have a group of people who follow my adventures and would ready and willing to buy it.
I’ve really studied social media and how to grow. For everyone who says it’s about min maxing content and titles to trick algorithms, there are saner voices that talk about quality content and how to promote it that isn’t based on ‘hacks’.
Most of this is about consistency. It’s about putting out content regularly across numerous platforms, realising that every platform is slightly different, and taking pillar content and then chopping it up, so that a long form video is on Youtube, quotes are on Twitter, highlights are on Instagram and outtakes are on TikTok.
Given the number of platforms it’s really easy to get lost down this rabbit hole. It’s partly why I’ve told myself that this is an activity for the Support Bubble sofa, so that I can ensure that the primary work gets done first.
If you like, the trick is to ensure that the writing is something where the tap is turned fully on, whereas the social media is a consistent drip.
My big problem is that I get derailed from that consistency a lot. If I miss writing for a day, I find it harder to get back to those 1500 word single sessions. If I lose access to Twitter or my computer dies stopping me from editing videos, everything else stops. And as for getting back to the gym…
So my focus very much over the next couple of months is very much on that consistency and supporting it. That might mean building a habit tracker. That means going to the gym, getting videos up regularly (maybe even to some sort of schedule), working on getting my alts through 9.1 and any reps they need, looking at my task management and ensuring that those quick repeat tasks don’t get forgotten.
As we hurtle towards the end of what I’m calling my year of productivity, I’m very much entering what I’m thinking is a season of consistency. How long that lasts and how successful I am at it remains to be seen.
