Thursday 2nd September 2021
Today was a ridiculously busy day.
For the first couple of weeks I’m trying to really push out content on my two web series. I want there to be a bedrock of content from which I can build. But trying to do daily uploads on not one, but two different series… is challenging.
I’m just glad I opted to only do weekday.
Once I get over this initial hump I can settle to once a week and be a little calmer.
However, I’m also trying to write. But I realised when I came to work on some novel work today, I’d written all the scenes I’d planned and wasn’t sure what to write next.
Ideally, I always need to have a clear view of the next two scenes. I have the plot and outline so I know the direction of the story, but what I need is an idea of whose POV, what the aim of the scene is, and maybe what the cool thing that happens is, be it a conversation, thought, or action. I didn’t have this so writing felt difficult.
Unfortunately I didn’t have much time for getting the words out as I had my first livestream for The First Draft.
I’m excited about this, probably more so than I thought. I’ve always thought it to be a cool concept to show a story being written, and I’ve deliberately made this one as traditionally unpublishable as possible. Talking my thoughts out loud is a new experience and I really was nervous about this before the stream.
But I had the most engagement I’ve ever had on a Twitch stream, and I had a lot of fun. I really think I’m onto something here.
We were only working on the plot, but we still overran by 30 mins and I felt bad for ending it, but we’d done what we’d set out to do and after filming that AND a 50 minute tour of my productivity systems, I was mentally exhausted.
Interestingly, today was also the day I made some major changes to my nutrition, and whilst I had every excuse for falling asleep on the Support Bubble Sofa this evening, I still had energy. This seems hopeful.
And as for social media! Announcing upcoming Twitch Stream, posting links to current content, announcing that latest episode of write productively has gone live, and everything inbetween, felt like I was juggling a hundred balls. But it was still fun.
Despite having an overloaded ToDo list when I filmed my walk through this morning, I got a ton of stuff cleared by the evening, and a good number of the social media tasks did not even feature.
Thankfully tomorrow is Friday. I can record the next Write Productively video over the weekend, try and get more writing done, and get a second livestream in.
I’m pretty sure that by the time these two weeks are up I’ll be glad to swap to a weekly cadence.
