Wednesday 19th May 2021

Today was Warcraft Wednesday and I got a lot done today.

Because Warcraft various weekly systems reset on a Wednesday today is typically my big day for playing.  I’ve been a bit lax on leveling the last few characters of late but that’s because I’ve been more focused on getting the level 60 alts renown up.

In truth, outside of raids, I’ve not played a lot in recent weeks, instead concentrating most of the stuff I need to get done into a Wednesday.

Of course, doing the weekly souls quest and weekly boss on 15 characters takes time but I noticed that they also had a calling that had you killing rares in the Maw.  It was simple to alter my souls route a little to do this at the same time.  It made it take longer but it helped my alts get some gear and conduits that they’re missing.

So, I ended up doing the weekly boss, the weekly souls quest and a calling on all 15 characters today.  And unsurprisingly it took me the best part of a day.

And to be honest, I don’t mind.  I’d rather have a big gaming day and make a lot of progress than have it strung out during the week and get nowhere.

As stupid as it might sound, these Warcraft goals help my writing.  It’s a reminder to keep doing the thing, keep grinding away.  And as I start to see results it reminds me that writing is like this.  You feel like you’ve made no progress in just about forever, and then look up and, BAM, have a completed book.

I felt I’d accomplished enough that spending all day on it didn’t bother me.  I might not have had chance to write anything, but the mind was whirling as I repeated the same quests again and again.

Most of my alts are at least renown level 10.  Some are now past 20.  This work today took most of them up 3 levels.  Even on the two I still need to unlock the weekly quests on, I still did the weekly boss and got them another renown level.  It’s all adding up.  I just need to focus a bit more on their professions (although I am doing Darkmoon Faire each month) before 9.1

Something I’ve also started doing during the week is doing Mythic unlocks.  This is where you complete a quest that allows you to skip straight to the end boss.  Given that they often have a rare mount drop this saves a lot of time.  So I’ve been putting some of my alts through Blackrock Foundry with the aim of unlocking it.

It takes me about 30 mins to do Blackrock Foundry.  Times that by 15 and you end up with a day like today.  But if you can skip all the other bosses, it becomes a 5 minute raid, which is more doable on multiple characters.  And, of course, this means a better chance for the mount to drop.

It takes 4 weeks to get the unlock as you need 4 of an item that drops from some of the bosses, and of course you can only do that once a week.

I’ve got it completed on both my horde and alliance main and because it’s so quick I decided to do it today.  I was already in a good mood as the Great Vault gave me the helm my raiding alt has been after for months.  They never got anything from Blackrock, but it was good I could now skip most of the raid and do it quickly.

I also did it on my main, and also thought it was a crap run… until I went to clear out my bags and found the mount there!

So technically that means I no longer need to run this raid again, which means I don’t need to do the quest on any more alts and can now start on the next raid.

So all in all, it’s been a productive day if productive means only Warcraft.  Still, it’s cleared everything out the way for a week which means I have a bit more headspace for writing.
