Monday 12th July 2021

As expected, after drinking WAY too much Pimms yesterday whilst raiding and watching the football, I woke up feeling very dehydrated and spent the morning being unable to do anything remotely productive.

However, I started feeling more myself by the time it came to afternoon and carried on the work of posting old editions of The Climb.

It’s taking me a lot of time as I not only need to log everything into my database, but I need to give each edition a quick edit.  And there was me thinking this could all be done in a couple of hours.

And whilst it’s adding to the time, capturing all my writing stats and dumping them into the system I built in Notion is going to be super useful.  For example, did you know I wrote 20,000 words and edited a hundred back in March?

I’m really impressed with the system I built.  It’s come together over time but it’s super useful.  I only worry if I ever move from Notion.

It’s taking me about 3 hours to post 20 editions, so even after 2 days of doing this I’m still only to Mid-April.  This should get easier come Mid-May when I started my daily log and don’t need to create backdated entries for the stats to flow through.

What it is giving me a sense of is how much writing each day, even if it’s just 700 words all adds up.  There are days I don’t write, and when I come to them, I almost wince at that lost opportunity.  But at the same time, as I edit the editions, I see all the projects I had on the go yet see how unproductive I felt at the time.

I thought, coming into this, it would make me depressed; that I’d look at the days where I felt unproductive and it would just drag me down.  However, instead, I’ve found it quite motivating.  With hindsight and a little distance, I can see everything getting done.  March felt like an unproductive month for me, and yet, 20,000 words written isn’t shabby.

The plan is to try and get this done.  I reckon it could take all week.  I also have volunteered to do some social media work for the Race to World First in World of Warcraft which will take up a few hours each day.  But I do want to make sure I don’t end up getting nothing else done this week.

Even if it’s just 700 words.
