Saturday 18th September 2021

Today was a pretty chill day.  After completing my two weeks of video / livestream, I’m looking forward to having a more relaxed schedule.  My writing suffered a little due to the focus on video but I was prepared to take the short term hit in order to get the ball rolling on these projects after so long of planning them.

Next week also plans to be a strange week.  I plan to focus on a few things around the house rather than writing.  Writing will still get done, but I’m interested in seeing whether sitting at a desk focusing on writing and then taking breaks by playing games or doing other things around the house, results in more words than if I focus on the stuff I need to do around the house and then take breaks by writing or playing games.  And if so, by how much.

But today was very much about having a bit of a break.  With the relentless weekday video schedule, the weekends have been a time to relax.

When I’m writing, whilst I don’t write every day, I treat every day as a writing day.  That means that if I’m working on something (and let’s face it I always am) I don’t get a day off worrying about it just because it is a weekend.

It’s been that way for so long as I try to juggle my writing around day jobs and other commitments that the idea of taking a weekend off has been a little foreign to me.  In general, the only difference to a weekend is that I have more time.

But after having a week where I’ve had no time to play games or do fun stuff, I’ve spent a lot of time playing Minecraft and watching Youtube videos.

C is away next week so the plan is to use next week to focus on something other than writing.  I need to do a few things around the house, and I really want to start going back to the gym for the first time in 18 months.  That’s going to be rough. As I’m massively overweight and unfit.  I’m using the fact that I have a year of thumbnails for The Climb already prepared as motivation to give myself to work on a new me.

As much as I want to get The Accursed finished, I need to make other stuff a priority for the week and this next week is the perfect time to do it.

So I got a load of Minecraft time in, continuing work on my new superbase.  I plan to build an entire medieval city, and whilst it’s going to take me months.  I do like that I can just dip in and out of it.

I also read some more comics.  The Marvel megaread slowed down during the summer but it’s picked back up again in recent days as I’ve finally reached House of M.  I’ve read it before but I’m quite pleased with myself at reading from one event (Avengers Dissembled) to another.

With the delay for new comics to appear on the app dropping to 3 months, I’m also wondering if I should have a parallel modern stream of reading.  It’s taken me 6 months to read what in publishing terms seems to be about the same time, so I’m starting to wonder if I’ll ever catch up.  I’d love to read all the Hickman stuff from recent years.   We’ll see.

I just enjoyed having a chill day, because come Monday whether it’s household stuff, comics reading or writing, I’m still going to be busy.
