Today should have been Warcraft Wednesday but after the terrible things that have happened at Blizzard this past week, there was an organised boycott in support of staff who were staging walkouts.  Having read the allegations brought by the state of California, they are truly dreadful and as a result, I was happy not to log into Warcraft today.  My weeklies can wait for tomorrow.

I notice that a lot of our raid team have not renewed their subscriptions, and some of the more hardcore players are always on Final Fantasy 14 these days.  I can’t really blame them.

But I have an emotional attachment to the game based on my years playing it.  It’s been my sanity during lockdown and dipping in and out really helps my writing in a way other games don’t.

So I made the decision, I won’t be quitting.  Given the staff staging walkouts and those still working who have actively said that the company’s tone-deaf response does not represent them,  I decided to stay in support of what this game can be.  Whatever happens its going to be a rough few years ahead for the game and whilst I’ll be sad, I won’t be surprised if I’m sitting here in a few years being upset about the game shutting down.

I hope they can rise above it, and in doing so set an example for the rest of the gaming industry.

So instead of playing I ended up doing a load of HEMA stuff.  I listened to a podcast featuring a few friends talking about women in HEMA and the challenges that presents.  I found it very useful to listen, especially if I want to have a club next year that women feel welcome at (which, as I learnt today, isn’t the same as a club that welcomes women).  This was one of those times to listen, and I feel richer for the experience.

I also completed stage 2 of my Sport Psychology course from the Open University.  I’m really enjoying this and from the tests I’ve done so far, I seem to have a good understanding of it.  I’m taking my time with it rather than trying to rush it to completion as I really want the knowledge to sink in.

I also did a bit more work on trying to get my Twitter account back.  I doubt this ongoing saga will be completed anytime soon, but I’m trying to keep the ball rolling.

I also kept the ball rolling on The Accursed, with another decent amount of words on the first draft.  I had a doubt the other day about not wanting an ensemble piece as my first mainstream novel and almost planned to bench it as soon as the draft is done in favour of something with a single protagonist, but I came to the conclusion today that I do not need to make things any harder for myself.

And finally, I also watched another film on the support bubble sofa in our ongoing Marvel Cinematic chronology.  We got up to Iron Man 3 today, which means we start Agents of Shield tomorrow – which may or may not be cannon any more.

I plan to play Warcraft tomorrow and stream the new content on Twitch.  As much as I hate missing a day of Rep, it’s worthwhile to add my voice to those who support the victims of Blizzard.  The quests will still be there tomorrow and I can enjoy a Warcraft Thursday for a change.
