Tuesday 14th September 2021
I woke up feeling very under the weather. It felt similar to how I do just before I come down with flu or a cold. It was enough for me to do a covid test, just in case. Thankfully, that was negative.
But if I have picked something up, then I don’t know where from. Since changing my nutrition I don’t even pop across the road to the shops at lunchtime.
It meant I felt really unproductive. I had hoped to use today to plan this week’s Write Productively video but I couldn’t focus on anything too involved today.
It’s been so long since I regularly mixed with people that even the slightest off-day is noticeable. Usually I’d not notice me coming down with something until a cold had broken. But the last 18 months have given me a real chance to monitor my health.
I suspect that when I return to mixing regularly with the world I’m going to be coming down with everything. I have a pretty strong immune system but I think all these non-Covid viruses are probably going to hit me like a truck in quick succession.
So today, I instead focused on just getting the basics done. I didn’t really achieve much.
Given the weekend break and a slow start to this week, I’ve noticed myself falling off the social media bandwagon a bit. And you know what? I notice the difference.
I forgot to promote one of my Write Productively videos last week and the views are down. Internally, there’s a pessimistic part of me that wants to believe the video was bad. They’re gonna happen but in truth, what I have learnt is that they get fed from other social media.
If anything, this proves to me that my diverse social media ecosystem approach is right.
But I do need to get back onto it. I need to make this more of a habit than an experiment. I have this failing with non-key habits(such as social media where it’s low on the priority list but all helps contribute to a desired result), that I’m good until I miss a day. I then feel that I need to do a big restart, and fall back into planning mode which it takes me an age to get out of. instead, I should just shrug, accept I had a busy day or accepted break, and just pick up where I left off.
There’s this thing new students do in swordfighting. They’ll do a move and then reset. The cut might not have hit the opponent but it may have put them on the back foot. but instead of pressing the advantage, they reset and lose it. I thought about this today and how it relates to the compounding effect of social media.
The lesson here is that my social media posting DOES make a noticeable difference and I need to stop resetting and press the advantage.
But that’ll be a job for tomorrow if I’m feeling better. Today’s task was simply to be able to get through streaming The First Draft .
