I give up.

So I had most things in place for our ultimate Minecraft sorting system, and it was working and looking great.  But one of my friends decided overnight that it was too big, and decided to rebuild it somewhere else.

I don’t have the spoons to argue.

Maybe they can do it better and great… but then why get me to waste my day trying to do it?  It’s not like mine wasn’t working.  Plus it was expandable.

Rather than argue  (“this is a game, it’s meant to be fun”).  I’ve just focused on my own storage and rail system.  I recreated the storage system I built in my own kingdom and got the basics working.  I’ve also started building a transport network that follows my paths.  Because systems have to be in render distance to work, I came up with a plan to ferry items back using two minecarts… one with a chest and one empty to hold a person.

Now you can be in one of the remote villages, put a stack of dirt in a chest, get in the railcart, press the button to launch you to a transport hub.  Get out the cart, leaving the chest alone.  Descend a floor to another minecart chain, get in, press the button and be taken home.  The dirt will have been automatically transferred at the hub, and when you arrive back home, it’ll drop down into the vault and get sorted.

It’s nothing crazy in terms of redstone, but it works and I’m quite proud.  Now as I’m exploring, I can take extra things back with me and not spend twenty minutes trying to find the right chest to sort them all out.

There’s still plenty of work to do.  I need to install rail over my entire kingdom, I need to make the ‘stations’ and ‘transport hubs’ look a bit more aesthetically pleasing, and I need to do filters in my vault for all the various items.  That should keep me busy for a week.

Whilst it’s a fun activity for a bank holiday weekend, I have a lot of other things I need to be doing, and whilst I don’t want to burn myself out ahead of a busy week, there are things I need to do tomorrow ahead of it.

I’ll probably turn my original vault into a central transport hub of some kind, but that’s a project that can wait for another day.

I like it that there’s lots to do, but I feel our central area is starting to look cluttered and am tempted to move my central base of operations further out now I have the ability to ferry things around.
