Saturday 1st May 2021

Today was a bit of a disastrous day, even if I did get things done.

Firstly, I’ve been working on the non-creative parts of this detailed outline.  There’s a few areas that aren’t plot and as such they needed a different part of my brain.  I had to write a diversity statement and you’d think this would be easy.  However, I completely overthought it and ended up writing something that was confusing.  And in doing so, I managed to confuse myself exactly what I wanted to say.

Writing is hard.

I had planned to take a walk into town today.  The weather was nice, and I really need to get some more walks in.  But, I ended up spending most of the daytime sorting out my Apple Watch.

I have a series 3, and like a lot of Apple products, it integrated into my life in such a way that I couldn’t live without it.  The trouble is updating it.

It got caught in the fire last summer when C accidentally set themselves alight, which basically resulted in the strap mounts melting a bit as I put C’s hair out.  The watch has been a bit funky also.  It may just be the case, but it’s unresponsive in places and generally a bit temperamental at times.

And trying to update it, either results in the general problem of not having enough space to do so… OR the updates just fail.  It decided to unpair itself today and as a result, I decided to reset the thing.  It was slow but it did it, but then it wanted to patch.

Every guide I read said it would take an hour.  I was cool with that, I could wait out a spot of rain and then go into town this afternoon.  Except it took closer to 4 hours.

Sure, I spent the time wrangling the document I’m writing and watching more tornado videos.  Heck I even did a bit more Warcraft but by the time the watch was fully patched and restarted, it was too late to really go out and I needed to move onto other things.

I won’t say the day was totally wasted because I did some work on other parts of this document.  But my plans got scuppered. And more annoying, because it’s a bank holiday weekend, I don’t think the shop I wanted to go to is now open until Tuesday, when it’s due to rain all day.  So it’s likely I won’t get to the shop I wanted to go to today until later in the week.

Oh well.  Better luck tomorrow.  Today did seem like one of those days, even if I did manage to finally get my Apple Watch to update.
