0.8%. That’s how close we came to defeating Sire Denathrius on heroic tonight in World of Warcraft. And of course, because progress is like waves, we then wiped on Phase 1 for a time before making it back to stage 3. But even when we did, we never got that close.
So we finish the week with Sire Denathrius still not down. Even I’m starting to feel super-frustrated. Everything is there to get it done, we just need the luck to do it.
Of course, it’s a super complicated fight, split into three phases. It’s meant to do this. Everyone is doing their best, so it’s not like there’s someone to blame.
It was also a Maril Special research day in Pokemon Go and I actually really enjoyed it. There was timed research for the 11 or so hours the event was on. But you didn’t need to pop an incense or even leave the house to get it done. In fact, catching just two pokemon was enough to make it to the next stage.
I managed to complete it in just a couple of hours dipping in now and again as the spawns outside my house refreshed.
I do enjoy super-involved complicated gameplay like Sire Denathrius. It requires a team working together. It’s amazing to watch, when just one member of the team mucks something up and dies, how the team starts to unravel. It shows how everyone plays their part. For me, the value I bring is in the first phase and killing the adds, and I noticed how, when I was targeted by a mechanic that meant I couldn’t, everyone was scrambling to take them all down.
But for all that, there’s something to be said for super-easy gameplay like the Maril research, No stress, and a little boring even, but something everyone can complete.
We’ll be back at Sire Denathrius next weekend and hopefully we’ll get him down. I hope so. As much as I’ve enjoyed the progress through this tier of raiding, and haven’t minded the wipes, we passed over 100 wipes on this boss, and we still can’t take him down. Worse still, we’re so close that we know there’s nothing we really need to change in terms of tactics. We just need to survive the first two waves, and then burst DPS him down at the end.
We’ll get there. I was sure it would be this week. I now hope it will be next week.
