It all evens out.

After a few days where I’ve not been particularly productive, today I got loads done on the detailed outline.

It’s not that I haven’t worked on it per say, it was more that it’s so complex that I needed to really take the time to think on how I would attack it.  This outline is a bit different in that as well as plot and character it has interactive elements, and in my head, I’m thinking game mechanics and how that relates to narrative.

It all kinda clicked by rewriting some of the narrative.  I took a much more stylised approach to it, and it unlocked a lot of the jams in my head.  As a result, I’ve put a good three thousand words into the document today and that doesn’t include sections I’ve totally rewritten, either for clarity, to punch up the narrative or to fix errors.

The people who are paying me to put this together are expecting something 10 – 14 pages long and up until today I was struggling to make it to 5.  Now it’s around 11 pages and with what I need to do it could go up to 14.

I’m super proud of it.  Whereas at the start of the week I was feeling out of my depth with the intricacies of it all, today it feels solid.

I had a good narrative structure last week, but I feel I’ve punched that up now so that the story seems like it’ll be a lot of fun.  Heck I’m eager to write it.

It’s possible that I’ve gone above and beyond with it, but I spent a lot of time putting in technical detail on how things will work.  I feel I’ve really conveyed my vision and even if it ultimately proves wrong, it’ll be wrong based on what I want to do rather than some misconception.

I’d wanted to get it out this week and at the start of the week that seemed impossible.  Now however, I think I could be there.  The only thing really stopping me is that I’m doing a guild run of Torghast Twisting Corridors tomorrow and that might eat up a lot of my free time.

Hopefully I can get an early start so I can get a load more work done on it before I have to log onto Warcraft.  Even if I can’t, I should have it completed by the end of the weekend.

Famous last words, but I honestly think I’m past the point of things jumping out the woodwork and biting me in the arse.
