We have a bit of a tradition with my family.  After all the fun of Xmas, we usually get up early on Boxing Day, have a cooked breakfast and then hit the sales.
Most years at least one of us has had an item for which we want extra bits.  So in the past we’ve hunted bargain DVDs and Blu-rays after someone got a player for xmas, or Xbox games when someone got a new console, or even some bargain accessories when someone got a new gadget.  Or, we’ve gone and bought ourselves the gifts we were hoping for at Christmas and never got.
But this year was different.
Firstly, no-one really got any gifts that lent themselves to extras.  I got money towards the TV I’ve already bought, my brother got a boardgame which isn’t at sale at retail.  And my father got a 3D Printer that isn’t here yet.
But we still made a point of hitting the sales.  Who knew, maybe we’d find some bargain or other that we desperately wanted?
For my part, I was after a new jumper.  I bought one a while back in H&M and have liked their stuff since, so was hoping to find another one for a tenner in the sales.  But even though they had a few on sale, none of them were exactly the sort of style I wanted.
Other than that the sales seemed poor.  Game, which normally has some game my brother and I decide we cannot live without had little on sale, and that was repeated in our normal retail hangouts:  Waterstones, HMV, and the like.
And so we returned back ridiculously early.  We were back at my parents house by 11am, and we weren’t exactly early leaving.
It was probably just as well.  I had been undecided whether I would go home today or tomorrow, but I realised that I have people coming down on Thursday which only leaves me Wednesday to get food and the house ready, so I drove back mid-afternoon.
I’d unpacked most of my stuff when I got a text from Craig who needed a lift home from his mum’s.  So I went up the road and picked him up and we went back to his to watch supernatural and catch up.  It was just as well I did as we’d not long got back to his when it started snowing.  We didn’t think it would settle but it did and I ended up having an interesting journey round the estate back to my house driving through virgin snow.
I hope this clears up tomorrow as I need to get food in for Thursday’s game day.  Plus there’s also the small matter of people being able to actually get here.
Given the arguments that normally happen over the rules, there’s part of me that’s already getting nervous for Thursday and I don’t need the weather adding to it.  I’m sure it’ll all go fine but I have so much I need to get done tomorrow, and the snow is just going to complicate matters.
