Wednesday 27th December 2017
Today was spent running around getting ready for the big games day tomorrow.
I got up late, but hey, it’s Christmas so it’s allowed. Some of the snow had disappeared but the forecast said it was going to freeze which made me worry about people travelling tomorrow.
I decided to walk into town to get supplies as a result. Whilst I’m sure the main roads would be better my road seemed enough of an icey mess that I didn’t feel comfortable trying to get the car out.
After yesterday’s disaster in the sales, I decided to check out the shops in town and at my local outlet centre whilst shopping. It also made for a good walk.
Ever since leggeddon I’ve had my legs in compression. I’ve been trying to get an appointment to get them looked at ever since I moved to Swindon but I’ve still not had one through. So over the last few years I’ve been experimenting with taking them out of compression and seeing how they react.
I decided for my walk into town I’d try it without compression and see if they swelled up. It’s not the first time I’ve done something like that but it was certainly a lot further than I’ve ever done before. I figured that if they got bad I could always rest them for a few days, or in a worst case scenario I could always get a taxi home.
But they were OK. A little sore, perhaps, but I was wearing jeans. Even a year ago, wearing jeans with compression would have aggravated them more, so I’m happy with the progress. There’s still a long way to go and I’m sure I’m going to suffer over the next few days as a result but I’m pleased with how I did. Ever since leggeddon I’ve been very firmly of the belief that I’m in charge of my own health and today was a positive reinforcement of that.
I picked up some clothes in the sales, and got some food for the games day tomorrow but there were still a few bits I needed and so I made a point of then walking to my local Morrison’s for a second food trip. Given how much I’ve eaten over Christmas (or as I’m now referring to it – Cakemas) a bit of exercise was pretty welcome.
I’ve probably got too much food but I don’t want people to go hungry.
In many ways I’ll be glad once New Year rolls around and things get back to normal. Aside from the stress of getting things ready for tomorrow, I have a party on Friday night as well as New Year’s Eve. I’m so fed up with eating badly and feeling fat. Rich food doesn’t agree with my stomach issues and as a result I feel slightly ill from all the sugar and carbs.
But still, I remind myself, it’s Christmas. I’ve worked hard this year and in under a week I’ll be back on a strict diet and having a lean January. Whilst many dread it, I’m now looking forward to 2018 and getting back on the grind.
