Today has been a bit of a nothing day, but thanks to a productive day yesterday, I don’t feel frustrated by it.
I woke late again, my body clock still not back to normal (thanks, fidgeting woman) but by the time I had breakfast and took care of a few things, there wasn’t time to get any editing in. I wasn’t too bothered given how much I got done yesterday (even with my procrastination).
It was the first time I’d been in the old office for some time now. As is usually the case, it was good to catch up with some people, as I haven’t seen some of them for a couple of months. As you find with any office there’s a real mix of people, some who I get on with better than others. It’s not that any of them are bad, per say, just some of them have some very strong views that oppose my own.
I think the thing that annoyed me most was a comment about giving 16 year olds the vote. Apparently 16 year olds cannot be trusted with their vote as they would just do something silly that Russell Brand told them (as if a 16 year old even knows who Russell Brand is). My own personal feeling is that if someone is old enough to die for their country in our military, then they are old enough to vote.
I focused on the things I needed to do. The office isn’t particularly noisy but I do find anything other than silence very distracting. Luckily, I remembered my headphones and was able to shut it all off for a time. I’m never as productive in the office as I am at home (which I know is unusual).
I was teaching swordfighting again tonight. It was good to be back. I had a small group as I pushed a lot of the more experienced students to go do the beginner’s stream on rapier that started tonight. A lot of my recent beginners weren’t there so I ended up with more experienced fighters who’d already done a lot of rapier (and so came to me to do some sword & buckler). As a result, we got through a lot of material tonight which was good.
The downside to teaching is the drive home. It was a long way, and it wasn’t made any quicker by stopping at Tesco. But I’ve been really thirsty today for some reason and despite buying 3 drinks, I am almost through the last one.
Just as well given the diversion. One night I’ll be able to drive along the entire section of the M4 without hitting roadworks.
