When I made my Shadowlands plans, I’d said to myself that I’d level up a load of alts.  Heck, I went through weeks of work to get them all to level 50 and geared up.  And yes, I did get them through to Oribos and do work on their professions.

But the job isn’t complete and where I’m feeling in a  bit of a Xmas funk, as well as needing activities I can do without my headphones, I’ve spent a bit of time this week leveling Alts.

It’s a bit grindy and takes time away from the main game but I can do it whilst watching a TV programme or listening for the door.  I’ve developed an interest in serial killers and have been watching Netflix documentaries on the Unabomber.  I’d call this research but none of my current projects has any need for such a character.  Who knows in the future though?  These things have a habit of becoming useful research down the line.

However, I think all this really is what I call low-spoon activities.  I’m in a funk over xmas.  I’m frustrated my productivity this year has been sporadic.  Writing hasn’t progressed at the pace I’d like and I’m a bit pissed off at myself.

Warcraft has been a bit of an escape for me.  As stupid as it sounds, in a very depressive year, it’s kept me the right side of sane.  It’s my pillow fort.  It’s the covers I throw over my head when I want the real world to go away.

These alts need to be leveled and I’m sure future me will appreciate it.  At least, if I’m in a funk, I’m doing something semi-productive.  And so as I grind these characters through the levels, learning more than I’ll probably ever need to know about the Unabomber, I find my mood lifting a little and me rising out of my Xmas funk.

It just so happens that the first of these alts I’m leveling is also going Revendreth.  I’ve tried to spread out my covenants so that I have a nice spread overall, but it just so happens that my raiding alt’s best choice was to go Revendreth, and it fitted the RP of my main and the alt I’m leveling now.

It’s going to take quite some time to get them all up to 60, although that was always the idea – splitting the time between the grind of leveling all those characters and writing.  There’s quite a bit of endgame work that needs to be done once they do reach level 60, but for now I’m just working on getting as many characters as I can to 60 before the end of the year.

Enjoying their covenant campaign and gearing them up – not so much for current content but for running old raid content in the future – can wait until the new year.
