Sunday 6th December 2020

Today is the last day of my WoWcation.  Whilst I still have a mountain of things to do, I feel the two weeks of solid gameplay have got me to a point where I feel quite bedded down.  Two main characters have been leveled; I’m now deep into the main endgame with them doing dailies and weeklies; I’ve started gearing those mains; All my alts are in Oribos and some are already leveling up further; all have learnt their professions.

It’s been a busy couple of weeks, and I’m pleased with the results.

More importantly, I feel that taking a break from real life for a couple of weeks and engulfing myself in a virtual world has been good for my own mental health.  I feel more ready to tackle a number of projects I have coming up.  I’ve started making todo lists, top of which is my 2021 plans.

I’m still not quite burnt out with Warcraft yet.  My plan was to get a lot of the excitement out my system without killing the game for me.  I want it that I enjoy playing but in smallish doses.  Dipping in and out, in between spurts of writing is going to be very productive for me but I need to ensure if I log in for a dungeon, I don’t suddenly lose a couple of hours.

Today I worked further on a few professions.  Darkmoon Fair is on this week, which offers the chance for players to do a simple quest to progress their professions 5 levels.  It might not seem like much, but it can get people over any humps.

I’ve chosen only to do this on characters who have progressed their professions.  Whilst going from Jewelcrafting 1 to 5 might be beneficial, it’s really not a good use of time as those recipes are usually pretty easy.  Plus, getting to Darkmoon Fair from Shadowlands isn’t that quick.  But I progressed my Blacksmithing and tailoring as well as a few other professions a bit.  Tailor is now maxed and I’m very pleased about that.

Going forwards, my immediate focus will be to get the gear up on my alliance raider up to the guild’s minimum of 170.  I’m currently 161 so it doesn’t feel too much of a challenge but I need to do a couple of heroics each day.  Other than that. all they need to be doing is dailies.  Once gear progression goes beyond heroics (their max item level for loot is 171), it’s then down to raids and the pace slows down to a more weekly cadence.  That should free up some time to work on leveling other characters and progressing their levels to 60.  Leveling is boring.  Leveling is great to do inbetween spouts of writing.

I have a whole bunch of The Climbs to write up and post, and that’s going to be my start, getting a daily wordcount going (even if it is non-fiction), as well getting me back into the habit of small regular bursts of writing.

I’ve not really come away from this break with any new ideas but perhaps there’s a soft focus on the future.  It’s not about hitting tomorrow running, but rather, slowly steering everything towards 2021 and future plans.  I have a couple of books I want to write, a few drafts I want to revisit, as well as getting ready for HEMA to return and some video projects.  There are plans, and I think they are plans that were always there, but have now slowly come more into focus.

WoWcation might be over, but there’s still lots to do in Azeroth, as well as back home as well.
