I’d wanted to get started on the novel write today, but I ended up procrastinating.

I rang family and talked to them for ages, then I did some work creating future thumbnails for The Climb, and then I played a round of Fortnite so I keep on top of the season levelling.

But a large part of the problem is that I played a load of Pokemon Go yesterday and tilting my head forward over my phone for so long has hurt my back.  As a result, it’s uncomfortable to sit at the computer.  I tried standing a lot and even went for an afternoon nap, and whilst it’s got better, it’s been bugging me all day.

This, I tell myself, is what I get for not exercising during lockdown.

I probably need a good walk to stretch all the muscles but it’s been rainy today.

I did do some more Pokemon Go today but it was just restocking pokeballs using my gotchas.  I’d wanted to shiny check but unfortunately I was driving.

I spent the evening sat on the sofa with my eyes closed, simply so I don’t slightly rotate my head and pull on the neck muscles I feel I’ve strained.

But the end result is that on a day when I could have got a load of writing done, I haven’t.  I hate days like those.

I know behind it all is a fear of getting started.  That was part of the reason for leaving it until the weekend.  A big session and I’ll break through the fear factor, get into the story and then be on my merry way.

There’s also a little fear that the prep work I’ve done that should allow me to zip through this isn’t prepped enough and I’ll struggle.  It’s all irrational fear, but it’s something I’ve learnt I go through.  There will come a point about two thirds through I’ll hate the novel and question my writing abilities.  I’ll get to the third or fourth chapter and love it.  It’s all part of the process.

Hopefully the procrastination has given me sufficient motivation to ensure I do a lot of work tomorrow to make up for today’s lost day.
