Battle Pet Master – The Climb #580

The original plan for this evening was to do some Fortnite. I’ve not played it a huge amount over the last couple of weeks and the week 5 challenges have now been released. However, the person I was due to play with didn’t feel great and so I jumped back into Warcraft for the evening.

Things are going pretty well at the moment. My current focus is garrisons and professions. More specifically, I’ve been trying to level up the shipyard for a number of my alts, as well as level up vanilla leatherworking on my Demon Hunter.

With the former, it’s just a case of doing quests and missions, so I just log in every 4 or 5 hours and take 2 minutes to set new missions off. With the latter, I decided I wanted to farm materials rather than buy them. This involves mini farming routes. Yesterday I must have run part of Uldaman twenty or thirty times to get the leather I needed to level up.

However, a lot of that got temporarily disrupted by battle pets.

You’d think playing Pokemon, I’d be a massive user of the battle pet feature in Warcraft. Truth is that I don’t have a lot powered up to 25 and so a lot of the battle pet content is not accessible to me.

There’s a battle pet event in Warcraft called Super Squirt day, and it comes along only about twice a year. It basically is the convergence of two events that allow players to power up battle pets super easily. I’ve spent hours trying to get pets to level 25 only to give up after a couple of hours when they’ve only reached level 10. With this hybrid event, you can do it in 2 battles.

One of the events is the regular Battle Pet boost week that happens every 6 weeks or so. The other is a set boss (called Squirt, hence the name) appearing at… your garrison!

As battle pets are account wide, I have the pet menagerie needed for the boss to spawn already unlocked, but I’ve never done a super squirt day. Part of this is because by the time the source I use for Warcraft news announces it, the day is nearly over. The other thing, is that it involves having 2 certain pets carry your other pet through the battle… and I didn’t have those powered up.

After the last Super Squirt day I’d done some work trying to prepare for the next one, but I wasn’t quite there. So when this afternoon, I saw notice that it was Super Squirt day, I set to work across my characters trying to pool items to get the second of the two needed battle pets up to 25.

I managed to get them to 23 which was enough. I then proceeded to spend the ENTIRE evening leveling up pets. I went through every list I could find of pets needed to do a lot of the Battle Pet content across all expansions (remember, I’ve done hardly any!) and then leveled those up. Battle Pets I was missing that seemed important, I went and found (or even in one case, bought off the auction house) and then leveled those as well.

I ended up doing well over 100 different Battle Pets, playing until VERY late. That’s probably more than 10 times what I’d leveled in the 10 plus years previous. However, it was worth it as I feel I’ve just unlocked a HUGE amount of content and because it is account wide, it’s something I’ll never have to repeat.

I can’t tell you how accomplished I feel to finally have this done. After years of feeling gated it’s like the floodgates have opened.
