Books are big things.  As a result, it takes time to do anything with them.  Hence the perception that publishing is slow.

And whilst I know this (heck, it takes a LONG time to write a book which is why most books in a series are spaced at least a year between) you find times when you feel like nothing is happening (when you know this isn’t true – it’s just that what’s happening doesn’t involve you).

Ordinarily, I’d keep myself busy with projects.  Indeed, it’s how I’ve managed to keep relatively sane during lockdown, enjoying a bizarre productivity where things have got done even though I’ve not felt particularly productive.

But I’m waiting on a few things, and despite knowing it’s going to be at least a month, I find myself sitting here simply hoping that processes will have somehow miraculously sped up overnight… which isn’t going to happen.

Worse still, I know what I should be working on.  There’s a good chance for me to get ahead of myself and be productive.  Yet I’m worried something will happen early and distract me half way through redrafting a novel…even though if this disruption happens it’ll likely be to tell me I should be redrafting this same novel.

Given that I’m still away from home caring for someone after they suffered some serious burns just compounds the issue.  Whilst I have my writing set up so that I could work remotely if I needed to, there are just too many distractions currently to find a good chunk of time to kick off the project and really stick my head into it.  I’m due to be back home at the end of this week but that doesn’t stop me feeling restless now.

Brains are stupid things, and mine needs to be kept busy right now.  Except it knows what it should be doing but is worried I might be interrupted unexpectedly to be told to work on the thing I’d already be working on.

Go Figure.
