I am now at one of the most difficult pieces of this draft.

I’m am close to the midway point in the novel and where the half from one draft meets the half from another. Bang in the middle of this is a new chapter.

I say new, but a version of this existed in a previous draft.  That version was so old though that I effectively have to write it from scratch.

This was a chapter I debated about putting back in.  If I find my word count massively going over budget, then this will be the chapter I cut.

It’s purpose is to build tension between the protagonist and a secondary antagonist.  In the old, old draft, it related to a different subplot that’s since been removed.  So I need to bring back the situation but completely change the motivations.

Yep,  it’s a tricky one this one.

I’ve had to rework some stuff to give the central character in this chapter a reason for being there, whilst ensuring that it doesn’t relate in any way to the old scrapped subplot.

I also got to chat to an industry friend today.  It’s always good to catch up on industry gossip, and it was nice, for a change, that I had something to tell them.  They’ve already offered to blurb this book… and I didn’t have to blackmail them or anything!  Bonus!

And of course, I continue to work my way through Jim Butcher’s Peace Talks that turned up early in the post yesterday.  No spoilers but I’m enjoying it and making good progress.
