So the novel has been sent off.
I only had a few chapters left to do, which I did this today with my setup of Kindle, sofa and mobile phone for notes. I actually like being away from the computer because it means I spend less time fretting and get down to the change that’s needed. I’ll be doing final readthroughs on kindle again.
The final part of the process is to export from Scrivener into word to create the RTF. I really need to spend some time with Scrivener’s compile function as it did weird things to chapter headings and scene dividers.
I ended up exporting into Word and fixing it there. I then ran Word’s spelling and grammar checker. I’m pretty glad to say that it mostly found typos and double-spaces, but it took some time to go through 115,000 words when you have a lot of fantasy names. Ignore All. Ignore All
I did a quick readthrough the discussion document to ensure I’d covered everything off, and then sent it off.
Now it’s a case of waiting. And the best thing to do whilst waiting is to get on with something else.
Given that Pokemon GoFest has left me feeling so rough I went to bed this afternoon (a combination of a change in medication and the fact I only ate a bowl of pasta last night – it wasn’t as if I went out for it; I spent most of the weekend on the sofa) I’m pretty pleased to have got this done.
I still have a week before I’m back at the day job, and I want to get on with a few other projects during this time. I’ve been trying to decide what to work on next for the last few days, and whilst I’m pretty certain I want to do something in some other media form (script or short story) there’s part of me that feels it’s been an age since I wrote a first draft of something.
Of course, a lot depends what becomes of this draft as it may dictate what I’m going to be writing.
I may give myself the day off and play some solid Warcraft tomorrow though.
