I’ve not been feeling great this weekend, with a flare up of some medical problems. Luckily, the best option for me is to just chill out in front of the computer or xbox. I did find myself going back to bed at 11am this morning though.
As a result, I’ve not been too worried about productivity the last couple of days. Instead I’ve been doing a bit of gaming here and there and just relaxing.
However, I ended up playing a load of Fortnite this afternoon and this evening. I saw they were running a tournament whereby you could amass points and be rewarded with a free skin. Ever the lover of free shiny things, myself and my friend had a go.
After some initial connection issues, we got in and unashamedly camped (you got points for how long you lasted in a game). I spent a couple of games with no weapons, including one where I shut myself in a bathroom and could hear someone moving about above me.
We got the requisite number of points and then went back to trying to get my friend to level 100. Last season they helped me when I didn’t play for a few weeks and got behind, so I feel obligated to return the favour.
So we spent most of the evening hunting down XP coins, using a Youtube guide to aid us. It’s not exactly the most fun gameplay in the world but we got him up a number of levels as a result and getting him to 100 before the next season now looks possible.
I’m excited for the next season if it’s all Marvel skins. With The Batman trailer and playing a demo of the Avengers game yesterday, I’m on a bit of a superhero kick at the moment. Specifically, my thoughts are surrounding team ups and spin offs. I think there’s something literary that can be done there one day, although I have no immediate or long term plans for anything just yet.
I’ve also been thinking about characters like Batman and the Punisher. I’m still formulating my ideas but there’s a scale where at one end it’s fighting cartoon bad guys for justice and fairness and at the other, an authoritarian bully beating up mentally ill people. People seem to have different ideas of where one becomes the other. I find that interesting and something I might want to explore in the future.
I wish I could have got some actual writing done this weekend, but my health needed to come first, and a couple of days sacrifice to hopefully feel a bit better next week was worth it.
