One of the things I’ve really missed during lockdown is having adventures. Whilst I’ve been unable to go stormchasing the last couple of years due to finances (it ain’t cheap to drive all over the US for a couple of weeks), the fact that I couldn’t sensibly go, even if I could afford it, makes me long for it even more.
Usually I sate my appetite for those big scale adventures by having smaller ones. My trip to Uffington last month (still burning through all those selfies I took for episodes of The Climb!) might not have been as action-packed as my US adventures, but just leaving the house without a concrete plan of what I’m going to do, rekindled a little of that sense of adventure.
But there are more adventures I want to have other than storm chasing, and whilst they tend to get added to a new bucket list, none has really captured my imagination more than one I found today.
It’s an organised drive from India to London, except that because of troubles in the middle-east it goes via Thailand and China and Russia. I could just see myself vlogging the experience. I can imagine how cool the images for episodes of The Climb would look as I drove from country to country. Hello instagram content for a year! I could aim to do a geocache and pokemon gym in every country I stopped.
It’s something just shy of 3 months to complete and as you might expect costs quite a bit. £22,000 and that doesn’t include the car.
But you know… if I won the lottery or got a massive film deal I’d probably do it in an instant. I want to drive from one coast of America to another (I’ve already done Canada to South Texas although I wasn’t driving) but this is on a whole ‘nother level!
Of course, I’ll never be able to afford it. And I suspect any lottery win or film deal would maybe afford me some nice Star Wars or G I Joe memorabilia rather than an epic road trip.
But I can dream.
One thing is for sure, when the pandemic is properly over around the world I’m going to do another big adventure. I’m not sure what just yet… but it will happen.
