So I burnt myself out last week farming raw gold.
The plan had been to really go for it to see just how much I could realistically gather in a week, most of this was done taking my 8 alts through Draenor raids. I did them all on LFR, Normal, Heroic and Mythic. I did a few MOP ones as well.
I’m not going to lie, it was a grind, so much so I almost burnt myself out trying to get everything done. I had a plan which started pretty well. On Wednesday I did Highmaul on all Normal, Heroic and Mythic, across all characters. It’s a pretty quick run… but when you do that 8×3 times, the time all adds up.
Which is why Thursday caused me problems. On the schedule (which I took from a raw gold weekly plan I found online) I was due to do all 3 difficulties of Blackrock Foundry and Hellfire Citadel, but that just wasn’t possible and completing just one of those raids across all character on the 3 main difficulties proved a challenge.
As a result I was still working on it into the weekend. I made good gold though… really good gold. The challenge to see just how much I could do in a week pushed me on. I tried to placate the boredom of the repetition by listening to an audiobook as I did so.
This week was an experiment so I don’t mind that I’ve got to the end of the week feeling really burnt out. I hardly played on Tuesday night, but then I’d pretty much exhausted the best sources of income. But all told I was looking at around 250,000g.
But it meant that other fun activities got put off. I’ve seen a plan using some of the professions and I wanted to try that but because this week was all about amassing raw gold I was loathe to spend any money (even on convenient flight masters). I also put off other games I wanted to play. I’m massively behind on Fortnite and I need to put some time into that before the season ends.
The one exception to grinding old raids was reputation. The bonus reputation finished this week and so I made sure to do all the emissaries each day. I tried to bunch them up so I only did them every 2-3 days but even so, with 8 characters they took a long time and felt a bit of a grind.
As a result, I’m a bit warcrafted out and may take it easier this week. I don’t regret the past week as I needed to put that time in. I think if I run draenor raids on all 4 difficulties I’ll probably get most of the gold I need. However, instead of trying to do it all over the course of a couple of days, I can instead spread it across the week.
My priority for the next week is actually getting to level 100 in Fortnite but in Warcraft, I may look to get either inscription and possibly Blacksmith up. Supposed to be good money with those, but I’ll guess we’ll see.
I’ve still got some time to get the Bronto but I’d like to do it (with time to spare) without having to burn myself out each week.
