I didn’t start on the draft today.

I’d like to tell you that I had a big elaborate reason why but in truth, it’s just procrastination.  Instead, I just finished up watching the third series of Dark.

I’ve been watching a lot of TV during lockdown.  I only tend to realise how much when I come to speak to friends and they’re just finishing off Tiger King, when that documentary feels like a million years ago.

On Amazon Prime I’ve been watching a few series.  I enjoyed the first season of Jack Ryan and jumped straight into the second season only to come away with the feeling that they sacked all the writers between seasons and got a whole new writers room in.  Things set up at the end of season 1 got quickly retconned and at times it felt like a different season.

I also recently watched Alex Rider.  I really enjoyed this, but strangely more for the first half of the season.  I know it’s targeted at a youth audience, but it felt moreso in the second half when Alex goes into school.  Up until then it felt like a regular thriller, after that it felt like YA.  Again, nothing wrong with that and I wasn’t the target audience, but it was still worth the watch anyway.

Over on Netflix I’ve mostly been watching documentaries.  I love those big multi-episode documentaries and I think I’ve watched them all.  If none of those are available, I seem to dip into the real crime / unsolved mysteries series.

Something a little different I enjoyed was Somebody Feed Phil.  It follows the aforementioned Phil as he visits countries around the world to taste the food.  What I like is that he tries a range of food from streetfood to high cuisine.  He’s a warm and funny guy so it makes for real easy watching.

And then on Sky, I’m also addicted to the documentary channels.  I tend to like all the Lost Treasure type programmes and there’s been a run of them at the moment.  However, it feels like we are now moving into UFO season as I’ve been watching a bunch of those.  I love conspiracy theories and how I remained such a skeptic given how much I devoured UFO books as a kid, is sometimes beyond me.

Given how I feel like I’ve nearly exhausted all the channels and TV services over the last few months, perhaps it’s just as well I have a novel to write.
