I’m still feeling ill. I’m certainly better than I was, but I still have a bit of an occasional cough and feel so exhausted.
I suspect some of this is the combined stresses of Lockdown and burngeddon leaving me a bit run down. It’s why I’ve decided to just take it easy and focus on chilling out and playing games.
One of those games is Pokemon Go. I’m quite a hardcore player and yet, I’m really not feeling it at the moment.
I used to enjoy going out, taking gyms, doing raids, powering up pokemon and hunting shinies, but I been feeling quite meh! about it recently.
I suspect some of it is the new Mega Raids. I’m a collector, so I like collecting the Pokemon. And although they are virtual, I like having them in my virtual storage. One of the reasons I couldn’t get on with Harry Potter was because all you collected were virtual stickers, and that seemed a double layer of virtual, and something my brain would not accept.
I understand that having mega pokemon gives you an advantage and so having them evolve for only 4 hours makes sense. But having a stamp in my pokedex does nothing for me – at least not like having a mega pokemon in my storage would. And the fact you can’t keep a living shiny dex, has just really put me off the whole Mega raids concept.
Outside of that the raid bosses are the Gen 1 legendaries which I already have. I think it’s great they’ve come back round to allow people who don’t have them to get them, but for me… well, it’s not an event aimed at me.
It was Porygon community day today, an event I usually love. Give Niantic their due, they’ve found ways to adapt during lockdown so you can now play from home. But Porygon wasn’t a pokemon that I want other than for its shinies. It’s supposed to be good for PvP but whilst I’ll dabble in it, it isn’t something I find a huge amount of fun.
So I go a few shinies, did the research, evolved some high IV ones, got myself a decent PvP one and evolved that as well. And then I was done. I used to get extra shinies or evolve a few extras for the special move with the intention of trading them… but I end up with so many pokemon for trade that it eats up my storage. It’ll be back at xmas if anyone missed it.
I suspect that my lack of enthusiasm can be largely blamed on recovering from this cold. I’m sure the next event will come along and I’ll be playing it a bit more. For now, it probably makes sure to cut back a bit until then so I don’t burn out what enthusiasm I currently have.
