Whilst there was a lot of Warcraft today, the main event was Pokemon Go and the monthly Silph League tournament we host. During lockdown we’ve been virtual only, but it used to be fun to meet up with everyone and play.
Given how much I’m nonplussed by PvP in Pokemon Go, I do love our tournaments. They’re a good bit of fun and everyone is good natured which makes for a pleasant experience. And as they’ve gone on and I’ve now got myself a bank of Pokemon suitable for the league, it’s become less of a pain to put teams together.
And that’s where I’m most proud. I’m usually terrible at actually playing but in terms of team selection, I spend the time, do research and end up with killer teams. As I’ve played more tournaments I’ve started to learn which pokemon do which moves and become better at countering.
I felt I did really well today. I had a really good rare pokemon that no-one else had suitable for the league… and it was a killer. I wiped out entire teams with it, my opponents only working out what to do to counter when it was too late.
So I got a lot of legitimate wins and was a bit disappointed when I ended up middle of the pack. Still, that’s better than when I used to come last. But I felt I played the best I’d ever played today, and the results really didn’t reflect that. I do it for a bit of fun, to make up numbers, and to support the tournament, so I don’t worry too much.
For all the stress it takes to organise, it’s totally worth it. It still doesn’t make me want to battle league but it does have me starting to want to win.
