Sunday 16th August 2020

I’d like to say that I spent all of Sunday deep in some writing project or other, but the truth of it was that it was spent gaming.

I suppose I shouldn’t feel too guilty given the work that got done yesterday, but there’s still a sense that however much I got done, there was time I could have better utilised.

Today’s big event was the Pokemon Go GoFest Make Up event.  Everyone got a 3 hour repeat of the event due to some technical issues that disrupted some players’ experience.  We got the Fire, Water and Friendship Biomes back and as a result I worked on a strategy.

I’d played hard during the original event and as a result got most of what I needed.  The Fire biome particularly had a load of good stuff, but I decided it better to focus on what I was missing.  The Shiny Pikachu hat Charmander is likely to be a difficult Pokemon to get in future and so I decided that was my sole focus.  A high level Daramaka would be great, I’d love a shiny Magmar, a better PvP Heatmor could be killer, but all of these have a chance of being got after the event.  And so our plan was for me to drive around and my friend to just shiny check Charmanders.  Nothing else.

It worked, we both got one.  They got a few other bits on gotcha as well, but as far as the Fire Biome was concerned for me:  Mission accomplished.

The same applied to the Water Biome.  This had been the least interesting of all the biomes during the event but shiny Pikachu hat Squirtle was my aim.  We continued to drive round.  I got one, my friend didn’t.

We came back home for the last hour, just catching everything on incense.  There was a load of good pokemon in the shiny hour, and so I caught a load of Chanceys and Snorlaxs for gym defending potential, and managed to get a couple of shiny Clefairy, a Feebas, a Jigglypuff and a Marill.

I also did a raid after the event and got a shiny Genesect.  Not great IV but after the amount of remote raid passes I’ve used on this and Deoxys to actually get a shiny from remote raids was a relief.  I’m a little burnt out from raiding as a result, even though I love remote raids.

We then moved onto Fortnite.  My friend is a little behind in the season and whilst I’m already level 100 I need more levels for the enlightened skin.  So we spent the evening doing that tackling some of the difficult challenges.  Took most of the night but I went up 14 levels, and they did more.  We still have another 30 or so to go before the end of the season in 10 days but I think it’s doable.  Not so sure about the 40 levels I need for the fully enlightened skin.

It’s good to relax and today was fun.  I got some good shinies and even in helping my friend in Fortnite, I made massive progress towards my own goals.  I still can’t help but feel I need to be working on a major writing project though.  It’s great that I love writing enough that I want to be doing it.  I’ve fallen out of love with it at times, but things are in a good place currently and I want to capitalise on this time.
