Friday 1st October 2021

Today was a poor writing day.  In fact I got very little writing done at all.  But far from being burnt out, the reason for the low writing word count was because I was editing.

As if I didn’t have enough projects on the go currently, I found out about an open script submission last week.  As I’ve said, I’m not really approaching this with the intention of getting picked up.  If that happened, that would be great but I think I don’t have enough experience.  But there’s only one way to get experience.

So I’ve set myself a goal to write a script every quarter.  And up until last week I had too much going on to do it.  The focus was on the videos and novels and a few other projects.  I did NOT need another project.

But I decided to give it a go.  Having something with a firm deadline would be good for me, I think.  Unless I have something firm, it’ll get done when it gets done, as I will prioritise quality over speed.  However, I think quality gets dangerously close to perfectionism at times ( and not in a good way).

The long and short of it is that I’ve spent all day editing the script so I could send it off this afternoon.  I vow that the next open submission I submit to will not be done in a rush at the last minute.

As for the script.  I like it.  In terms of my skill as a scriptwriter currently, it’s pretty good.  However, I hope in 2 years I can look at it again and be able to pick holes in it.

But I’ve sent it off and feel very accomplished for doing so.  With so many projects ticking along, to actually get something finished and out the door feels like a breath of fresh air.

It’s given me motivation to clear a few other projects off next week.  If I can reduce the number of projects  in the coming weeks I think that would be good… even if it just makes space for new projects.

I am feeling very tired after this week.  I’ve done a ton of writing and editing, and my eyes feel sore.  However, I still want to work over the weekend.

I’m not exactly sure what’s happened but I feel I’ve been coming out my pandemic writing slump over the last few weeks.  I’m not celebrating just yet, but I feel a lot more focused.  It’s taken less effort to write this past week and I don’t know if that’s just a temporary thing or me coming out of some elongated period of Pandemic anxiety.

I guess we’ll see how next week goes.

I found another open submission for scripts today as well.  Technically we are into a new quarter, so  perhaps I’ll get this quarter’s script done early for a change rather than rushing at the last minute to make the deadline.  Somehow I doubt it though.

I do need to make some time for some gaming tomorrow though.  I’m not burnt out yet, but I suspect I’m not far off.
